UPTOWN MAKER CENTER (w. Madhura Kharche)
This semester-long project involved the design of a public use maker center in Pittsburgh, which included program space for digital and physical fabrication processes, classrooms, offices, and exhibit display space. The studio project also included a “joint component” for a deployable roof that was detailed and physically fabricated (local steel fabricator in Pittsburgh) in fulfillment of concurrent course, “Issues of Practice.” For this part of the project, my partner and I detailed a sliding track for a retractable roofing system to cover the outdoor gathering space.
We worked throughout the semester on a conceptual idea of carving out space from a series of "folding" walls that wove through the maker space. Our final design featured a series of poured concrete walls that weave through the space to create smaller areas for classroom displays, art galleries, cafe, workshops, and more.
